That's cool.
For stripping the paint, There's a decent paint stripper called nitromors.
Rough the surface of the paint up with sandpaper, and then apply a pretty thick layer of it. Leave it about an hour and then take the paint off with a wire brush.
I'll describe the polishing when you now if you can use the buffer or not.
